FA Quest for the Ultimate Naval Battle

Welcome aboard Commander,
In a Quest to craft a map that generates the
Ultimate Naval Battle against the AI.
My mission was to build an FA map such that:
a. If AIX Sorian Water AI is selected as the enemy you get absolutely flogged.
b. The AI must do good resources to keep up a fierce battle.
c. The AI also needs to build some good land defenses and a land army, including Exs.
d. Later I added the condition that the AI must be able to destroy all bases from the water.
e. And I already had an overall condition that the map needs to run very fast.
Development history.
1. My 1st attempt was the map ‘Stealth Ports’ - 10 x 20, 3 v 3, [REL] - released
This map built a strong AI navy and ran 750units ok.
The landform was such that the ships ruled the water but they could not do much damage to the well-defended bases.

2. Then I made ‘Lake Anguish’
10 x 20, 3 v 3, [REL] -released
This map built a strong AI navy and ran 1000units ok.
The landform allowed ships to penetrate deep into your base if the navy was on top.
Although the ships could destroy the base they tended to just commit suicide on the shore at the feet of Percys[UEF land T3 bot].

3. ‘Tribal Lands’
20 x 20, 3 v 3, [REL] - released
This map was an attempt to balance ‘base defensive landform’ against ‘good naval access’ to the main front line or gates to the human base. Having a lot more room was good…but the artwork distracted me and also the land based AI expansion problems. It turned out a good map where the land AI finally decided to play ball and do two things at once. Again here the navy was important, but was suicidal, in other words it still rammed the shore instead of sitting off at an effective range and bombarding the shore installations. This map also proved to be a bit slow once 2 AIX got 1000units.
This is an Epic battle recommended at 500unit limit for a fast game.

4. ‘Sail On’
10 x 20, 3 v 3, released.
This map has finished circulating in test mode.
[REL] – has been released.
The Sorian Water AI loves this map and builds a beautiful navy.
It runs very fast with 1000units set.
Ships behave intelligently and evenly attack both human shipyard zones.
I made changes to the way I do shorelines on this map. This has the affect that ships now tend to sit off shore and use their range more. No more ‘Kamikaze’ battleships.
This map gives the navy good map control as well as access to the front of the human bases, but with great skill, and significant losses, a dedicated Commander could survive and use his land army to win the day.
The fact that all water is linked together is a plus.
This map produces an Epic battle for Land, Sea and Air.
Certainly ‘Sail On’ is presented as a candidate for The Ultimate Naval Battle.

5. ‘Sail on Sea’
10 x 20, 3 v 3, released FA Vault.
This map has finished circulating in test mode.
[REL] – released.
The Sorian Water and Turtle AIs loves this map and both build a navy.
It runs very fast with 1000units set.
Ships behave intelligently and evenly attack both human shipyard zones.
This map gives the navy good map control as well as access to the front of the human bases, but with great skill, and significant losses, a dedicated Commander could survive and use his land army to win the day.
The fact that all water is linked together is a plus.
This map produces an Epic battle for Land and Sea.
‘Sail On Sea’ is my best effort so far to create The Ultimate Naval Battle.

6. 'Malta'
20x10, 2 v 2 - released
Map has high resources.
Symmetrical landform and resources.
Runs well with 1000units set.
The Sorian Water AI is best here, and puts up a good naval battle.

7. 'River Plate' - released
10 x 20, 3v3

8. ‘Libya’
10 x 20, 4 v 2, not released.
This map is still circulating in test mode.
There are fewer resources available at the start points.
The map is asymmetrical north / south
It runs very fast with 1000units set.
The AIX Sorian Water AI is very strong and rulez this map when it starts in the south, it can kill almost all the human base area from the water. I have not yet checked the AIX performance from north to south, which should be not as strong. This map looks promising.

roj|||Looks interesting, I've pulled the maps down from the vault. Good to see people still working on maps, gives the game new life. Please post when the 'Libya' map is released and on the vault.|||Sorry for the delay with ‘Libya’,
It has proved to be a very difficult region to deal with.
No team has managed to defeat the AIX Sorian Water AI that starts in the south.
Testers are saying that it is impossible to win if you start in the north… I would normally wait until a team reports that they have beaten the AIX in a good game, before I release the map.
The problem is that the map is meant to be asymmetrical in landform and also is somewhat unbalanced in resources. The TeamPlay mission requires the Human team to start in north Libya.
I have edited Libya to make it a little easier by adding more mass available to the Human team, so that people don’t get too frustrated trying to win here. It is supposed to be hard… but still fun to play. It will require more testing.
In the mean time why not try “Malta” which has had extensive testing and has been released to FA Vault.|||If only "Tribal Lands" had its own download link T_T I would soo love to play it...|||You got your wish thanks to Reddev32
