[REL][FA]Solo A.C.U. v6, 4/28/09

NEW SOLO ACU MAP BY MANIMAL! GET IT IN THE VAULT!

Current: Version 6

Manimal has just finished his map, which has all of the proper restrictions. Get it from the vault, it's called "Solo ACU v5." Just search "Solo ACU" and get the one from Manimal. The first slot is for the attacker, and the 2nd slot is for the defender.

This is a game type called Solo A.C.U. The concept and initial format were created by Benny Moore, and the gameplay is being developed by Benny Moore, Ertwyu, and KrimsonStorm. The story, limited as it is, is that the combatants are stuck with training A.C.U.s which have limited building capabilities but powerful upgrades. The attacking player is dropped in enemy territory and must fight to destroy the defender. There is no support from home either for you or for your enemy. It is just you on your own.

The defender begins the game begins with a moderate sized base and an A.C.U. upgraded with a Tech 2 Engineering Suite. The attacker, on the other hand, starts in an air transport, with an A.C.U. upgraded with R.A.S., Tech 3 Engineering Suite, and Microwave Laser. When the game starts, the attacker is given 10 Spy Planes, a T2 transport, and an upgraded Cybran ACU. The scripting prevents any other factions' ACU from spawning. The attacker must get in the transport and fly off to find an adequate place to land. He is not allowed to land on the ridge to the left or in any of the corners. Once you are dropped, your first priority should be building one or two tactical missile defense systems, because the defender has two tactical missile launchers. After one or two of those and a shield, the attacker will be well out of mass and should strongly consider putting up a Tech 3 fabricator, which he can power from his A.C.U.'s R.A.S. All the while, he will have to fight off enemy land and air units with flak, Tech 1 point defenses, and his A.C.U. laser. Reclaiming is essential, because you will run out of mass. Generally speaking, not following that build order will result in a quick defeat.

When the game starts for the defender, he has to stay frozen until the attacker lands. The only thing he can do when the game starts is build a tactical missile in each of his launchers. Once the attacker lands, you're free to do whatever you want. Be creative!

Benny, Ertwyu, and KrimsonStorm (this post was written by more than one of us, hence the third person) have played a lot of trial-and-error games, and the game has been extremely hard to balance. So far we have come up with the following rules, and they will constantly be changing as we tune the balance. Currently, the game is rather balanced for one versus one. We are planning on balancing it for two versus two also, but that will come at a later date. There is a cooperative mode, also; in fact, the game originated as such. However, getting the A.I. to cooperative can prove tricky.

1. S.C.U.s are not allowed. The idea of the game is Solo A.C.U., where it is just you on the battlefield with no help from headquarters.

2. The attacker must be Cybran. He is allowed no mobile units except for land scouts, Tech 1 air scouts, Tech 3 spy planes, Tech 2 air transports, Tech 2 mobile flak, and engineers. In addition, the attacker is not allowed omni-sensors.

3. The defender must be U.E.F. He is not allowed any Tech 3 units, including omni-sensors, Tech 3 mass extractors, and Tech 3 factories producing Tech 2 units. Furthermore, the defender cannot build tech 2 power generators.

4. Neither side is allowed Tech 2 point defense, stationary artillery, walls, or nukes.

5. Until the game actually starts, the defender is limited to a standing army of 20 land units, no aerial or naval units, and a specific base. This base must consist of 4 T2 land factories, 1 T2 air factory, 20 T1 point defense, 8 Tech 1 anti-air turrets, 90 Tech 1 power generators, 4 Tech 2 shields, 3 air refuel pads, 1 Tech 2 radar, 1 Tech 1 radar, 2 tactical missile launchers, 16 mass storage, 4 energy storage, 4 Tech 2 mass extractors, and 4 Tech 1 mass extractors. This restriction was put in place because the defender is supposed to start the game with that base. Once the attacker lands and the game begins, these unit restrictions are lifted and the defender can build anything within his normal unit restrictions as described in the rules numbered 3 and 4.

**OLD REPLAYS WILL DESYNC, we will get some new ones up soon.**

Saya|||nice dual strike there|||Yes, we actually were originally going to write in the same thread, but we had a bit of a fight over who should post the thread. As I devised the original concept and also had the better-worded post, I decided that I should post it. Ertwyu, however, disagreed and posted another one after I had posted mine. He's a poo-poo head.|||I'd have to disagree with this, actually. Your post had no target, whereas mine was also a question to the forum if they play some fun games of Supreme Commander. Also, my thread outlines some of the rules better and gives a better idea of how the game works. So you're actually the poo poo head.|||No, you're the poo-poo head. My post is an announcement of a new game type and an implied suggestion that forum users should try it out. No one wants to wade through your poorly-worded post and attempt to make some sense of what they glean.

Oh, and Rhianne loves me.|||Actually, my post will get more attention since it is easier to read and is in no way "poorly worded." Your thread, on the other hand, makes use of a lot of large words that some of the more simpler minded forumgoers would not be able to comprehend. Give me an example of how my post is poorly worded and I will fix it. I have already pointed out some misleading information in your post that you had to fix.

Anyway, if Rhianne loves you, then why is she in MY avatar?|||they were both tl;dr anyway.|||OH BOY HERE WE GO AGAIN|||ertwyu|||Let's keep this on-topic, please. This thread was not intended to be about Rhianne. That's what the other thread is for.|||On the topic.

Maybe you should include Exavier Macbeth's ACU upgrades mod. It might make it a bit more... interesting.|||From the way you worded that post, it sounds like you think this gameplay style is boring. I invite you to join us sometime and play one of these games, so I can convince you that this is indeed a very fun way to play.|||ertwyu|||That mod would probably work well, now that I think of it. It would work well if we could just have the ACU upgrades by themselves. The mod is in a whole mod pack.|||What does this upgrades modification do?|||Benny Moore|||Even though those mods do sound appealing, I'm afraid they might be a little bit too overpowered. It wouldn't be that fun if we could just march through the enemy's base with 100000hp and insta-kill everything.|||OK, I'll play along (with the thread that is).

One of the satisfactions I derive from the game is beating the AI with unconventional tactics. One of these tactics is building no units except engineers, hundreds of them, and mass swarming my opponent's base with them, capturing his units and offensive weapons, which in turn start to destroy his own base. Point defences are first, followed by his assault bots, tanks, artillery etc.

I suffer massive losses of units, but being engies they are quick and easy to build. Having his own point defenses take out his ACU is sweet ***.

cheers,

Astro.|||ertwyu|||Does he have the ACU upgrades mod by itself?|||Bump for great justice.|||ertwyu|||Sounds like fun. Got a replay?|||I was going to say there were replays in the vault, but they just cleared out the vault. I'll get a replay for you shortly.

EDIT--Check your PMs, v1rg1nator.|||I've decided to only update the first post. Right now I am editing the first thread.
