offical map editor ?

So when is the offical map editor that the game devlopers promissed with the release of the game actully going to come out ?

yes i know theres a home made map editor but its full of bugs and glitchs and has a memory leak.|||midn8t|||midn8t|||I dont understand the fuzz about the official map editor. Hazards thing is just fine. Yes it takes a day or two to get a hold on it, and figure out how to do things, but then it just rocks! Do anyone expect a official editor to be easier? I dont think the learning curve will change a lot though...

What it needs in my opinion:

- Tweak the decal placing (better more accurate rendering)

- Integrate a props browser (thumbnailed), and render them in the editor (even if its just sprites, but I wanna get a picture...)

- Performance/rendering increased.|||The official editor will most likely use the same rendering engine as the game, which ia already a great advantage, since you see everything you place on the map just like it'll look like in-game. This is especially a big advantage for decal an prop placing (which is indeed very intricate in my editor).

The performance will also be alot better and i expect it to have much more comprehensive set of heightmap editing tools and there will be a whole bunch of new functions and possibilities.

Expect it to be a great step forward in SupCom mapmaking (not to speak of singleplayer scenarios and stuff like this).|||HazardX the main thing that is missing in your map editor, is a tool to average the height, you have raise, lower and flatten. This tool would open the avenue, to being able to create maps by hand, because you could make a slope that gradually climbs (rather than having steps in height). With what is in the editor now, it is close to impossible to do that. :)|||Look, the topic poster is right, Hazard's map editor, even as thankful as we are for it, really is incomplete and buggy (and still crashes everytime I close it.)

No one complains about it because we're really happy to just have it at all, especially since GPG is taking their sweet time with the real editor, but that doesn't change the fact that Hazard's still buggy and lacking important features. So please don't try to claim it's totally awesome and perfect because it really isn't.

It's a really nice tool, especially since GPG is slow to release the official one, but please don't say silly things like "Hazards thing is just fine." It really isn't and a lot of folks are holding off making maps now because we anticipate it will be a lot easier once the official editor is released.

And one blatant example of a basic problem with Hazard's: It doesn't even open existing maps properly. For example, try to load Ian's Cross. You'll notice something rather important is completely missing: All of the wreckages from the midfield! You have to make sure you don't save over it but Save As and then manually go into the _save file for the original and copy all of the wreckages over into your new map's _save file of it every time you save it in his editor b/c you changed or tweaked something in it.|||yacoub|||LeVirus Watts|||But the editor doesn't load the wreckage to begin with so you are sorta running blind the whole time anyway.|||Official editor is out, get it from the gpgnet vault.|||The Announcement of the Official SC Map Editor:

http://forums.gaspowered.com/viewtopic.php?t=13096|||I think that most mapmakers will use both map-tools simultaneusly. The official map-editor is a bit awkward when it comes to e.g. marker placing, hazard-x's tool is more usefriendly here.|||So, how do I place player spawn markers in the official tool? I've managed to figure most everything else out, at least.|||They keep deleting my posts pointing out how it couldn't be downloaded. wtf?

http://forums.gaspowered.com/viewtopic. ... 491#167491|||Cyde, read the readme. Its in My Documents/My Games/GPG/SupCom/Tools/Map Ed or something like that.|||yacoub|||Did you see that this topic is from Tue Jun 12, 2007? Over 2 years old.

The official map editor is already out and is available in the GPG vault.

GreetZ ThaPear|||Stupid necroes|||ThaPear|||I've made several maps, and i haven't needed hazardX's editor. Could be me though... What do you think you need it for then.

GreetZ ThaPear|||HazardX rebuilt his editor into an advanced marker editor, that really gives you a lot of valuable tools for AI control, that aren´t availbe in the official editor (unless youre a LUA code genius).|||Now a two month necro. This thread is immune to dieing.

As there is a thread for Maps in SupCom 2 now, please use it instead.
