Official Map Editor problem

So was looking at making some maps to play on, as there are far to few 3v3 and 4v4 maps in the 40+ range.

Got the official map editor worked out, v4. I have both Sup com And Forged Alliance, and got the editor working by copying the v4 editor into the Sup Com folder. (I tried getting it to work in the FA folder by copying the DLLs it wanted, but once it stopped complaining about DLLs, it just crashed. No error report).

Anyhoo, figured out the tools, a few good tutorials to assist there. Got the point I was ready to add markers. Had created the teams, had modified the map lua file to FFA...

I go to place a marker. Nothing happens. OK. I'll zoom in. Maybe it wants things more accurate. Zoom in. Place marker. Map gets a few shades darker. No marker placed I can see, but it shows up in the list. I rename it as tutorial says...try to zoom out...and the map window is frozen. I can use the menus, but cannot move the map. if I try to save as, nothing happens. if I save, it acts like I did not place the marker.

Thoughts? I can't open the map in the unofficial map editor, it crashes when I try to load anything.

On windows 7 x64. 8gigs ram, quad core AMD 3ghz machine.

Thanks!|||for once don't use the map editor while it is maximized, then try doubleclicking on the markers in the window where they show up, usually the editor will then zoom in on them.

other esoteric errors which might cause your issues don't come to mind, but I'm usually spending more time with map scripting than in the editor, so I'm no expert, sorry.|||Interesting, thank you for the reply

I can place the markers from a height (Fully zoomed out). I can't see the icon at those heights, but it is there. Everything works fine until I zoom in a little. once I get just a little closer than fully zoomed out, the map greys out and freezes the view port.

If I double click on the marker in the markers window, it starts to zoom in on the point, then freezes. I closed and tried again, this time switching back to the elevation tools before zooming in, and it still froze the map editor window.

Any thoughts?

EDIT: I may have found the problem. Checking the log I get this:

c:\work\rts\PATCH\code\src\libs\gpggal\EffectD3D9.cpp(79) invalid effect variable requested: fogTexture

.....why is it looking there!? and where can I find this file?|||OK, also get another message, when I turn off everything I can.

c:\work\rts\PATCH\code\src\libs\gpggal\EffectD3D9.cpp(882) Invalid Call

It repeats it infinitely until I close the map editor...page after page. I'm assuming it has something to do with me running the map editor out of the Sup Com folder rather than the Forged Alliance folder. However in the Forged Alliance folder it crashes on start up. (Loads then closes, no error message)

Thoughts?

Thanks!|||a little additional information...

if I try to open the map inside Hazards map editor, it crashes.

I CAN load it in Hazards Marker editor, however I cannot place start points. (I can place mass, rally points, path nodes, etc. just not start points).

I have a feeling I've done something wrong, but I have no clue what.

Any ideas? Thanks!|||Start points are simply blank markers names ARMY_1 and ARMY_2 and so on up to eight.|||Thank you josst,

the problem is when I add those markers, the editor window darkens, and freezes. I can rename the marker to ARMY_1, but it is still frozen in the editor.
