Hi, I'm updating a SupCom map so it has the new markers for FA but there are 2 markers I dont understand at all, and 2 I'd like some clarification on:
Effect:- No idea what this marker is about. For now I'm assuming its something similar to the weather marker but that's just a wild guess.
Naval Link:- Again no real idea what this one is for. I see the Land, Air, Water, and Amphibious Path Node Markers and I gather these are just waypoints to help the AI find its way around for the different types of units, so what the heck is Naval Link for???
Transport:- I understand what this one is about but question is do I need to set a from and to points or just place where the AI should attempt to transport units to, and let it work out where to get them from?
Naval Exclude:- I gather this is to prevent naval units from going to certain areas of the map, but not sure why I would want to stop them from going to any area of water.
Anyone able to provide me with some info on what these markers about? Would be much appreciated so I can finish off this map.|||Weather Effect: Just like the weather definition but controls where the weather actually centers on.
Naval Link, this is where usits should go from land to water and visa versa.
Transport, just stick em anywhere the aia should land, no need to set pick up points.
Naval exclude:L stops them from going into narrow straights to avoid jamming or places where they can be killed incredible easily.|||The Weather effect marker is simply the point around which a weather effect might take place - it has no impact on the AI - although it could if it was coded in.
The Naval Link - like above - was obviously intended to signify a transition area between land and water - but again - in all the AI code I've examined - I've never seen it used. The proper use of amphibious markers on both land and water make those paths more clearly.
The Transport marker is rarely used by the AI - in fact - I can think of only one function that makes use of it -- and only if the AI cannot make a 'safe' path (that is - to an Air Marker) in the vicinity of of the destination for an air drop. It would have have far more impact in the original Supcom where the Air Marker wasn't available.
There are no functions that I'm aware of that examine the Naval Exclude marker.
